Music Theory Level 1
Develop note reading skills in the treble clef, bass clef and grand staff with notes up to two ledger lines. Study rhythm including whole, dotted half, half, quarter and eighth notes and rests in 2/4, 3/4 and 4/4 meters. Learn scales and chords in the required keys of C Major, G Major, F Major and A minor. Explore intervals including half steps and whole steps and melodic and harmonic intervals up to an octave (numerical size only). Gain knowledge of musical terms and signs. Compose short melody lines with a given rhythm using compositional techniques. Study real music examples containing all aspects of this level and the previous level. Historical study of Carnival of the Animals by Camille Saint-Saëns and Peter and the Wolf by Sergei Prokofiev.
