Loni White

Loni White was born in Manitoba, Canada and began studying piano at the age of nine. Loni became very devoted to music and enrolled in the Royal Conservatory of Music. She competed every year in the Manitoba Festival of the Arts, which led her to represent Brandon twice at the provincial festival. Loni received many awards at these festivals, many recognizing her talent in performing works by Canadian composers.

At the age of 13, Loni began studying piano, theory, and music history with pianist and composer Dr. Kenneth Nichols. By 16 Loni began teaching piano privately. Similar to her own career, many of Loni's students were involved in the Royal Conservatory and competed at the Manitoba Festival of the Arts. At the age of 17, Loni graduated high school with the governor General Bronze medal for having the highest academic achievement in her graduating class.

 At the age of 18, Loni enrolled in the Brandon University School of Music and continued to study with Dr. Nichols. Loni received many scholarships to study here including the Board of Entrance Scholarship, Music School Entrance Scholarship, Centennial Scholarship and the Manitoba Registered Teacher’s Association Scholarship. This same year Loni completed the practical examination of the highest level in the Royal Conservatory, which led to her completion of the Associate of the Royal Conservatory of Toronto in piano performance. At the age of 19, Loni was a finalist in the prestigious Snjolaug Sigurdson Piano Competition, hosted in Winnipeg, Manitoba.

After a year and half studying in the Brandon School of Music, Loni transferred to Minot State University, in North Dakota, and continued her piano education under Penny Simons. Here she was awarded many scholarships to study music, and was consistently on the President’s Honor Roll.  In 2004, Loni was awarded first place in the Music Teacher’s National Association Young Artist Competition for the state of North Dakota. In 2006, Loni had the opportunity to be the guest soloist with the Minot Symphony Orchestra, where she performed the first Tchaikovsky Piano Concerto. Loni graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree with a major in music, and three concentrations in math, physical science and psychology, in 2006.

In the fall of 2006, Loni entered the graduate program at Florida Atlantic University. Loni began studying here with world renowned pianist Judith Burganger. Loni had many opportunities to work as a collaborative pianist in both smaller settings and with the FAU university orchestra and wind ensemble. She performed for many undergraduate and graduate recitals as well as being a featured soloist in many of the department’s highlight concerts. Loni graduated with a Master of Arts degree in 2008. 

Loni has extensive teaching experience as a private piano instructor and at the university level. She works as adjunct piano faculty at Palm Beach Atlantic University and is a co-founder of the Pops Orchestra of the Palm Beaches. She serves as the Artistic Director of the Pops Youth Orchestra of the Palm Beaches and is the co-owner of LaRae Music Academy. Loni is an active performing musician, recognized for her ability to perform with chamber ensembles, and specializes in modern music.
